Next Monday, June the 1st at 17:30 (GMT+1) Maria Grazia Rossi (Nova University of Lisbon) and Sarah Bigi (Catholic University of Milan) will discuss the relevance of communication in cancer care with Elena Semino (University of Lancaster, UK) and Monick Leal (Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro). It will take part in the event also Irene Carvalho (University of Porto and president of the Sociedade Portuguesa de Comunicação Clínica em Cuidados de Saúde).

Elena Semino is Professor at the University of Lancaster, UK. Her research focuses on health communication, medical humanities, and corpus linguistics. She has been working specifically on metaphors in cancer and end-of-life care, producing – together with other researchers at Lancaster University – the “Metaphor Menu for People Living with Cancer”.
Monick Leal is a psychologist and head of the volunteer department of the Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro, an NGO founded in 1941 with branches across Portugal, that provides support to cancer patients and their families, promotes health education campaigns, and cancer prevention.
